TOMBS AND TEMPLES
Bellow are the images of some of the better known and well preserved Thracian temples in Bulgaria. Some of them were used for ceremonial purposes only and some were later converted into tombs-mausoleums of the local kings. I'll add to this gallery as I find more photos of existing sites or as the archaeologists uncover new ones.
Facade of the famous Kazanlak Tomb near Sheinovo, IVc. BC
The temple near Starosel, IVc. BC
The temple of Dyonis-Sabaziy near Shipka, IVc. BC
The Helvetsia Tomb near Shipka found in 1996, IVc. BC (called like that because Switzerland sponsored the excavations)
The entrance of the tomb of King Sevt III: The latest discovery inside the Golyamata Kosmatka mound near Shipka, North of Kazanlak, central Bulgaria:
The remains of a unique circular tomb in Mishkova Niva, Stranja from V - IV c. BC.
This is what a section of a typical Thracian burial tomb looks like: the grave is dug in the ground, covered with stones, above them some larger stones and rubble are put and on top some earth or soil to form a modest image of a natural mound like the one to the right. A complete innocence from the outside ...
Finally, a map of the Bulgarian Valley of the Kings, North of Kazanlak:
