Lets face it. We are driven by the demands of food, sex and territory. Anyone who has ever found themselves in silent battle for a few mm of space on the armrest of a crowded plane, anyone who has risked family and reputation for an illicit sexual adventure, anyone who has left the comfort of a warm bed to go to work knows the power of these demands. They exist in a place beyond logic, reason and good sense. They are primal and relentless. In the face of such demands we are stripped to our basic natures. It is a wonder that we are able to keep up the pretense that we are in control and the masters of our destinies. Yet that is precisely the role of the False Sense of Authorship. It is the master of pretense and nothing else. When we glimpse this, the door to freedom cracks open.

When the split between the mind and the body, the psyche and the soma, the willed and the spontaneous, the voluntary and the involuntary gets healed, a wonderful change takes place in one’s attitude to life. You begin to accept as perfectly natural, all kinds of things which are beyond your control. You do not feel a sense of helplessness concerning happenings over which you do not seem to have any control. You rest more comfortably with the spontaneous and the natural: you begin to have faith in the deeper Self, without a sense of any separation. In short, you no longer fear the natural, the spontaneous, the involuntary: you accept both reason and intuition as inseparable twin aspects of life.
