CTI Movil Rally Argentina 2004, to be held from 15th - 18th July on the hills of CЁ®rdoba, will be run under the SupeRally system, only as an experiment. This will also apply to all the remaining rounds of the Championship this year.
The SupeRally regulations allow for cars which have retired in a leg to re-start in a subsequent leg.
However, as it will only be a trial for the future, these "re-starting" cars will not score points for the Championship and will not be classified in the results of the event.
The system provides crews which have had to retire with the opportunity to complete all the special stages and acquire experience, while spectators have the chance to see every driver.
Three rallies in one
If this system is finally adopted, Rally Argentina and all the events forming the Championship will count as three. Each day will be considered as a separate event, with a separate classification.
This measure will compensate for the decrease in the number of competing manufacturer cars, which has been set in two for this year, instead of three.
There are those who even dare to call it a 48-round Championship!
The series will thus become more competitive, giving more chances to both cars and teams.
How it works
When a car retires from a special stage, the crew will have to follow a specific procedure in order to re-start on the subsequent leg.
After receiving permission from the Clerk of the Course to remove their car into the service park, they shall complete a form and submit it to the Stewards who will decide on the crews authorized to rejoin.
The mechanics will have to work hard in order to repair the vehicles without replacing the components sealed at initial scrutineering, nor the engine block or the bodyshell. This implies that the same car must be used throughout the whole rally.
The starting order will be divided into priority groups, with the re-starting cars at the head of each of the groups.
CTI Movil Rally Argentina 2004, which is to be held in less than a month, will witness the regulatory evolution of the Championship.
