"THE GALLERY OF RESEARCH | GALERIE DER FORSCHUNG" has
a new Programme Director: Albena YANEVA, a 32 year old
Bulgarian who has studied and worked in Berlin, Harvard,
Paris and Sofia. As Programme Director she will be
responsible for the concept and organisation of
the programme and the content of THE GALLERY OF RESEARCH.
Albena YANEVA will start work and present her plans to
the public on 1 October 2004.
In an international search process with more than 140
candidates from 30 different countries, Albena YANEVA was
selected as the best candidate because of her expertise and
knowledge in the areas specifically relevant for THE GALLERY OF
RESEARCH. An international Search Committee consisted of Maya
Halevy (Director of the "Bloomfield Science Center" in
Jerusalem), Michael Shara (Curator of the "Einstein Exhibition"
and Astrophysicist in the "American Museum of Natural History"
in New York), Jorge Wagensberg (Director of the "Museu de la
Ci?ncia" in Barcelona) and Abbott Miller (Graphic Designer at
"Pentagram" in New York) among others. The shortlisted
candidates presented their proposed conceptual frameworks for
THE GALLERY OF RESEARCH at a hearing in the "Austrian Academy
of Sciences", attended by the Search Committee and by
representatives from the Academy of Sciences as well as
from the funding Austrian Federal Ministries. The decision
by the panel and the appointing committee, which was unanimous,
took into consideration the scientific, cultural, theoretical
and methodical competence of the candidate.
Albena YANEVA has worked at the "Ecole des Hautes Etudes en
Science Sociales" in Paris and at the "Center of Sociology of
Innovation" of the "Ecole des Mines de Paris" with Bruno Latour.
She was a reasearcher at the "Max-Planck Institut f?r
Wissenschaftsgeschichte" in Berlin and at the "Department of the
History of Science" at Harvard University. She has contributed
to several successful exhibitions and is currently working,
in cooperation with Rem Koolhaas, on a book about "The Failed
Extensions of Whitney Museum of American Art: A Natural
Experiment in Exploring Design and Modernism".
