Road test
Inside the Octavia continues to offer impressive space, except for rear-seat passengers who surrender legroom to the ample boot. The dashboard is wonderfully solid, simple in design, good to look at and ergonomically hard to fault. The engine choice is extensive with five petrol and three diesel choices that will be familiar to anyone that's sampled the current VW line-up. The revised car adds more value to the models it replaced. When combined with the impressive driving dynamics it continues to be the tempting purchase it always was.

Crash test
Skoda chose to improve the Octaviaнs side impact protection after initial tests exposed weaknesses in its performance. That part of the test was re-run and the results are shown here. The car provides a strong safety cell for its passengers although its footwell ruptured during the frontal impact. Forces acting on the driverнs and front passengerнs chests were relatively high. Testers also criticised protection provided for occupantsн knees and lower legs.
