Installation and Registration Information

Congratulations for choosing Solid Edge 2D Drafting from UGS! You will soon be enjoying production-proven capabilities for drawing layout, diagramming, annotation and dimensioning.

Follow the instructions below to begin using your free software.

If you have already installed the software:
1. Right-click the attached SELicense.txt file and choose Save As
2. In the Save As dialog,
a. Change the file name to SELicense.dat.
(Do not open the file. Unintentional changes will prevent Solid Edge from running properly.)
b. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Solid Edge 2D Drafting V19\Program.
(Note: Please check this location carefully. You must put the SELicense.dat file in the \Program folder.)
c. Click the “Save” button.
3. Click “Yes” when asked if you would like to replace the existing file
(If you do not get this prompt, double-check the location. See Step 2-b, above.)
4. Your Solid Edge 2D Drafting software is now ready to use.


If you have not yet installed the software:
1. Right-click the attached SELicense.txt file and choose Save As.
2. In the Save As dialog,
a. Change the file name to SELicense.dat.
(Do not open the file. Unintentional changes will prevent Solid Edge from running properly.)
b. Navigate to a folder that you will remember.
c. Click the “Save” button.
3. Double-click the file SE2Ddraft.exe (previously downloaded from www.solidedge.com\free2D)
(You may be prompted to install the Microsoft .NET Framework. If so, just follow the instructions and install it.)
4. During the installation process, you will be prompted to select a temporary folder.
The default should be fine in most cases.
(It may take several minutes to expand all the files into the temporary folder.)
5. On the main installation page, where it reads “Solid Edge License File (optional)”, click “Browse”.
6. Navigate to and select the license file you saved earlier (SELicense.dat) and click Open.
7. Click “Install”.
(This may take several minutes.)
8. Once installed, your Solid Edge 2D Drafting software is now ready to use.

The Solid Edge 2D newsgroup lets you post questions and learn tips from UGS experts and other users.
You can access the Solid Edge Free2D newsgroup via a web browser or using any NNTP compliant news reader (such as Outlook Express).

To access the private.se_free2d newsgroup using a web browser:

1) Via your web browser, enter the URL http://bbsnotes.ugs.com
2) Your “Webkey Username” will be the E-Mail address you used when filling out the registration form
3) Your “Webkey Password” will be “free2d” (no quotes - all lower case).
4) Click the “Configure My Settings” button and enter your real name and E-Mail address. (This is used if you decide to follow any threads in the newsgroup via E-Mail.)
5) Click on “Commit Changes” to save your settings.
6) Click on “Browse All Groups”.
7) Click on “private… 1 groups”
8) Click on “private.se_free2d, x items”
9) You are ready to start using the newsgroup!


NOTE: Steps 4,5,6,7 need only be done once. Please bookmark the http://bbsnotes.ugs.com URL -- just remember that your username is your e-mail address, and your password is “free2d”.

To access the private.se_free2d newsgroup using a news reader (this example will show Outlook Express):

1) Via your web browser, go to news://bbsnotes.ugs.com/private.se_free2d
2) Please make note of the URL above; including news:// at the start of the string, as shown in step 1, will automatically start Outlook Express (assuming you are running Windows XP), add the bbsnotes.ugs.com news server into your list of news servers, and subscribe you to the private.se_free2d newsgroup.
3) Right-click on “bbsnotes.ugs.com” to bring up a menu, and select Properties.
4) Under the “Server” tab, check the box “This server requires me to login”.
5) Enter your E-Mail address as your username.
6) Enter the string “free2d” (without the quotes) as your password.
7) Click on OK.
8) You are ready to start using the newsgroup!

NOTE: The URL news://bbsnotes.ugs.com/private.se_free2d will now automatically start Outlook Express, and take you directly into the private.se_free2d newsgroup; please bookmark it. You will not be prompted for a username and password.
