Thoughts on Reformation of the nWo
January 25, 2002
What many believe was the best angle in the history of wrestling is now coming back within the WWF. Much like it did in WCW, the nWo will attempt to 'kill' the WWF and Vince McMahon is '100% behind them'! It all went down like this: Vince McMahon was going to explain his 'major announcement', the one that 'even he would regret'. He started saying that Ric Flair has brought a cancer upon the WWF. Not the fast type of cancer, but the slow and tedious type that will kill the WWF slowly. In order to defeat this cancer, Vince McMahon said he will 'destroy what he has created'. McMahon then turned around to show the nWo logo on the back of his chair.
It has been known for several weeks that the WWF was seriously considering reforming the nWo upon signing Nash, Hall and possibly Hogan. However, we did not believe that it would happen so soon. Although the reformation of the nWo opens many doors for the WWF, it also may delay pushes to some of the WWF's young and promising stars such as Hardy Boyz. With the recent addition of such names such as Flair, Mr. Perfect, Hall, Nash and possibly Hogan and Steiner, to an already crowded roster, the WWF will be forced to cut back on TV development of the younger stars. This may even include guys like Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and Booker T, all of whom are major superstars. It is quite possible that guys like that will be pushed back to non-main event and non-title matches. This is one reason that some wrestling fans do not like the reformation. Other fans believe that the nWo angle has already been squeezed to its full potential by Bischoff and company.
However, there are also plenty of good possibilities, if the WWF plays their cards right. In fact, it was not too long ago that the WWF DID NOT play their card right in a very similar situation. I am talking, of course, about the alliance angle. Hopefully the WWF will learn from their mistakes and produce more compelling programming. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. We have further coverage and analysis on our newsboard and editorials.
