my friend todd purgason from juxt interactive asked me this morning for some feedback on the piece he contributed to Born Magazine this month for their Birthing Room Gallery of Multimedia Art.

with the flash movies, as you all know, one can't do the famous "right-click-save-picture-as..." and nick people graphics on which they spend time and money.
there's no flash developer who could give away their art work.
nevertheless there are some places where you can get some free clipart (they are not always best but decent ones), such as:
those are gif animations which you could directly import into flash and then play with them.
with certain amount of effort you could even convert them to vector graphics by tracing them or by applying some other techniques, reduce the file size and improve the quality on resize.
there are also a whole bunch of other sites which offer free clip art. i guess you know them.

do you use any language to create graphics in photoshop?
guess not. same in flash - it's all standard drawing tools and lotta imagination.
the language in flash (v4) is called actionscript and it's for the actions you assign the graphics to do not to create them.

Background:
The distance squared between two points on the screen is the sum of the differences squared between their coordinates. In other words:
distance^2 = (X2 - X1)^2 + (Y2 - Y1)^2
where X1 and Y1 is the location of the mouse and X2 and Y2 is the location of the target.
Assuming the targets are symetrical, just use the width of the target's image as its size (this is best for square images). The actions for this Hit Detection (with 3 targets) now looks like this:

i think you know the answer yourself.
you can go and check out the database connection i've done in flash v4 using actionscript through asp. you can register or enter straight away using:
