In the context of the planned rapid growth we are looking to hire:

JAVA BACKEND DEVELOPER

REQUIREMENTS:
We're looking for primarily a JAVA developer who works exclusively on any flavour of Linux, both desktop and server. (Debian/Ubuntu is a big plus):

Candidate knows Linux really inside out and definitely runs Linux on their own machines, primarily using the command line.
Candidate that can run Linux (or a BSD variant (except OSX)) while asleep, hung over, or with 3 hours sleep - without screwing up.
Candidate that has awesome Java development skills.
You'll need decent commercial experience of Relational Databases such as MySQL and preferably a good knowledge of NoSQL such as Mongo DB, message queues, caching, shared memory, etc.
A working knowledge of Scala, Clojure, Haskell although this doesn't have to be commercial experience, or willingness to learn SCALA.
You'll speak perfect English, and clear written English
Excellent academic record of achievement in the Computer Science field.
Good personal hygiene is a plus, but not obligatory


We presume that you are capable of such things as:

Reading man pages
Creating Make files
Using Apache Maven
Developing against APIs
Unit test driven development
The candidate must be able to deal with JDBC/Java networking/Design


Beneficial would be:

Demonstrative experience in Data mining /processing in high throughput environments.
Python experience
Knowledge of PHP or Actionscript is a nice extra.
If you have worked on data streaming such as the Twitter stream API, and web scale data sets
that is ideal.
Experience in text mining tasks such as sentiment and named entity extraction is a plus.
Lots of certification, that's wonderful.
Demonstrate open-source code, or anything else that demonstrates initiative, we will be impressed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Developing JAVA and SCALA data processors, and upgrading the current ones. We deal with 90 million social media blog posts, tweets, facebook updates a day.
Another project we have is a 12 month archive of 25 billion social media mentions. We want to build a distributed system to analyse this, in either NO SQL or a distributed search. You could develop Proof of Concepts for this.
Make suggestions on improvements to the backend.
