Особено ми допадна това (спокойно може да се отнесе и до българските wanabes):

LDB: What should Romanian writers do to get to be known throughout the world?

HHL: Wishing to become a famous person is not the best starting point for a writer, and even getting published is hardly what you should think about in the first place. The best angle of approach is writing for writing's own sake; to create great literature. But for those, who are sincerely wrapped up in writing, and wish to make a living out of it, economical considerations makes it necessary to look abroad. For those, I can offer a modest advice. The secret behind most international successes were, they lived up all of these headlines: FORGET ABOUT LUCK: You are competing with thousands upon thousands of upcoming talents. Nobody 'discovers' your writing, as nobody finds it exciting compared to what they already know. Until you prove otherwise, you are just another, insignificant amateur. Those who count on luck remain unknown, no matter how brilliant they write. Those who take action have a chance. REMAIN PATIENT AND STUBBORN: Don't argue with anyone, who tries to talk you into something else. Don't even listen - just ignore it. Prepare to ignore much crap, live for many years at the bottom of society, and perhaps go hungry for days. FOCUS: Leave the dishes, shopping, and socializing till later. You're not an unemployed, but an author, and authors must attend their work. WORK: Come up with original ideas and style, work hard on the manuscripts, translate (and make sure it is professional) into English, French, German, Spanish, try to sell your stories simultaneously to several countries - but only one at a time within the same country. FORBID WRITER'S BLOCK: If you're betrayed by your own imagination and just can't write, try strong, black coffee or write something else. If nothing else works, if you are tremendously exhausted, and your last vacation was a decade ago, then a short nap might be appropriate. DON'T HESITATE: Ever heard "stories are never finished, just abandoned"? It means: don't fiddle forever. Send it out into the world. And don't wait for answer. Write a new story in the meantime. NEVER GIVE UP: No matter how many rejections you get. GAIN KNOWLEDGE: Don't read books on creative writing (often by authors, who can't sell their fiction). Read some of the works by professionals, on every imaginable aspect of the trade. A scary one for beginners is former editor-in-chief at Pantheon Books, Andre Schiffrin's "The Business of Books. How International Conglomerates Took Over Publishing and Changed the Way We Read". DON'T DREAM: Forget USA. Although there is a lot of prestige in getting published in USA, it is next to impossible - even for respected American authors - and the market is much smaller than Europe. ACT PROFESSIONAL: Make a list of significant agents, editors, magazines and publishing houses throughout Australia, Canada, and Europe, and try out the most important first. Know the company, before you address it. Don't send anything to a publisher on the brink of bankruptcy, and don't send cyberpunk novels to women’s magazines. Send it to someone with a healthy economy, who publishes the genre in question. Don't make business with anyone, just because you like the person. Kick your agent's and publisher's butts once in a while. If they don't work enough for you, sack them. What you need is a terrible allied - someone who scares the shit out of people - to force way for your writing and cut the best possible deals. Be careful with contracts and copyrights. Be VERY careful with your fee: Accepting a low fee means bad PR and lousy sales figures. If the book doesn't sell, the publisher won't buy again, and you probably can't sell anywhere else. So, if an agent or publisher won't pay enough, try someone else immediately. Never say "yes" just to get in print. HAVE BACKUPS: If you loose your publisher, your agent is likely to follow. And getting a new publisher without having an agent ... well, before it happens, make sure you have alternatives. CARE FOR COVERS: Book covers are associated to the content. If the signal is wrong, your fiction is labeled wrong. And labels stick. TRUST YOUR FICTION: Let it speak for you. Don't waste time, defending it. Some readers, editors, and critics will dislike your diction no matter what. Let them make fools of themselves. REMEMBER WHAT PR CAN DO: To the better or to the worse. As an example, some authors became known personalities through TV debates and so forth, thereby selling more books. This might also work for you, but it might as well be a living hell. If you send your new books to TV channels, and they want you in on a show, think it through before you agree to participate. Who else is participating? How is the program related to your literature? Are you capable of delivering an elaborate answer over five seconds, being totally unprepared for the question? USE WHATEVER DIRTY TRICK: As long as it pays off. MIND YOUR TOOLS: You are going to type in letters for the rest of your life, so learn real ten-finger blind typing, throw away the mouse, and use the shortcut keys - you might not believe it, but this alone will make you produce twice as much. To become even more efficient, scrap Windows and Microsoft Word - it is clumsy, slow, annoying, instable, unsafe, and unfit for long manuscripts. Use DOS with an old word processor program such as WordPerfect 5.1. Define a standard layout, and forget about layout for the rest of your life. Don't trust automatic spell correction, word-division or punctuation. You can use dictionaries on the computer, but still, put up a shelf of dictionaries next to the screen. Cheap jet ink color printers are slow, and use expensive ink that needs to dry. Get a black/white laser printer instead. It is faster, much more economic, and makes beautiful, sharp, waterproof text. YOUR WORK IS HOLY: Potentially representing zillions of dollars. Therefore, you follow a backup copying routine, and keep a paper copy as well. You need no firewalls or virus scan programs to be 99.99% safe. You simply don't allow irrelevant stuff on your machine. If you insist on having games or internet, keep it elsewhere on a separate computer. DON'T MARRY: If it leads to kids or other disturbances. I've heard so many authors claiming they could overcome both family and writing. They couldn't. KEEP UP TO DATE: You can always learn more, write better, and sell more. The moment you stop being active, curious, or imaginative, is the moment you should stop writing. Till then, I wish you luck!
