In the past I have written articles which some construed as being critical of the Apple Computer company - but this is not one of those.
The launch of the way-cool iPod portable music player a few years ago has sent the company's profits soaring and I believe that the launch last week of the Mac mini computer will send sales shooting even further into the stratosphere.
The Mac mini is quite simply the cutest and most adorable young computer you have ever seen. It is a mere 16.51cm wide, 5.08cm high and weighs less than 1.5kg.
It is also the cheapest Apple ever with the basic model at $500 (R3 300). The basic model has a 40gb hard drive, 256mb of Ram, a DVD player and CD Writer drive, a modem, a network port, USB ports, a FireWire port and a port into which you can plug any monitor you like.
It comes with a full suite of software including Apple's OS X 10.3 "Panther" operating system, Appleworks, internet mail and browser, address book and calendar, Quicken 2005, two games and iLife '05, which is a suite of programmes for organising your photo collection, organising and playing your music collection, burning CDs, playing DVDs and recording music.
The minute I saw a picture of the Mac mini I wanted one. I'm a PC user and I can't think why I would want one, but I do, they're that cute.
I reckon Mac mini is going to dramatically improve Apple's share in the PC market.
Mac minis will be available in South Africa from about March at around R4 550.
I can't complain, but sometimes I still do.

Apple beats Google as brand with most impact
Или най желаните работни места на планетата
Въпреки твърденията (в Давос) че РАЩ губи конкурентно предимство при наемане на работна ръка, заради лошия си имидж (в ЕС, 60% открито мразят американски компании), погледнете колко марки са от там

Brandchannel.com, an online magazine dedicated to branding, has awarded Apple its fourth annual Readers' Choice Award as "the brand with the most impact in 2004." Apple beat out Google, winner of the award for the last two years -- as well as furniture store Ikea, coffee chain Starbucks and Middle Eastern news agency Al Jazeera.
"It's hard to imagine a brand having a shinier year than Apple," wrote Brandchannel.com's Robin D. Rusch. "Notably punctuated with iMacs, iPods and iTunes, Apple's 2004 presence was felt in the press, in ads and on the streets, with iPod coming to define the word 'ubiquitous.'"
The Brandchannel Readers' Choice Awards are given annually to brands that had the most negative or positive impact on our lives each year. To tally the award, branding professionals from 75 countries cast 8,098 votes from November through December 2004.
Brandchannel's Readers' Choice Awards are given to both global and regional winners -- regions include Asia-Pacific, Europe & Africa, Central & Latin America and North America. Apple won for the both the Global and North America categories.
