Even though the number of those ill with SARS has risen by eight, bringing the total up to 265 probable and suspect cases, officials say these cases haven't appeared out of the blue. They knew these people were exposed earlier.

Here are the latest figures in the battle against SARS:

Of the eight new cases, two are listed as probable and the other six are suspected to have SARS. Four are health-care workers at Sunnybrook hospital, one case was contracted during travel, and the other three were known exposures whose symptoms have developed to the point where they are now listed as suspect cases.

Three more Ontario residents have died from the virus — a 44-year-old York Region man and two women, one aged 69 and the other 64. That brings the provincial SARS death toll to 19.

Only 84 SARS patients remain in hospital, 30 fewer than a week ago.

663 people are in voluntary quarantine.
