So what's the best country in the world for IT?

A new report by the UN has ranked the top 20 countries in the world for both technology and comfort of living. At there are some shock entries.
Canadians will know all about the UN Human Development Report because every time we have a slight dig, they inform us that Canada is officially the best place in the world to live. It has been for the last six years. Well, not no more. But to IT first.
It may be impossible for our Yankee cousins to imagine, but you are not the world's leading country when it comes to technology. Okay, you're second, but top spot actually goes to Finland, which is pumping out more cutting-edge and hi-tech goods than they know what to do with. It may have something to do with the high price of beer.
Third comes Scandinavian cousin Sweden - which has also used phone technology to shoot out in front. Then fourth Japan, of course. Followed by Korea - which is booming on the back of semiconductors and cheap labour. The Netherlands made a surprising sixth and the good ole UK comes seventh. For the rest see down the bottom.
So where is the best place in the world to live? Believe it or not, Norway. Canada doesn't even come second, Australia does. Nope, it makes a disappointing third. Mind you, the UK comes in at a pathetic 14 - but then we live here, so we could have told you that. The US slips three places to number six, making Sweden fourth and Belgium fifth.
So seeing as we are IT journalists and like to have a nice time, The Register has decided to up sticks and relocate to Sweden. We can't understand a word of Swedish but who cares [insert gag here about blonde masseuses in a sauna]. ®
The full lists are as follows:

Finland is most competitive country in the world
Finland is also least corrupt
Finland has once again been ranked the most competitive economy in the world, measured with two different indicators. These are the results of the Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Last year, Finland placed first with the Current Competitiveness Index, but only sixth with the Growth Competitiveness Index. This latter index measures factors that support the growth of the gross domestic product.
The United States, Canada, and Singapore follow Finland in the Growth Competitiveness Index rankings. Norway places sixth, and Sweden ninth. Last year, the United States still topped the rankings.
The views of WEF are similar to those of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). In their competitiveness survey, which was published in April, Finland placed third after the United States and Singapore.
Petri Rouvinen, a researcher at the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, finds two plain truths from the two surveys. First of all, Finland’s competitiveness has improved over the past ten years. Also, Finland is undoubtedly among the top ten countries, but according to Rouvinen, not necessarily quite at the top.
Rouvinen explains that the indices are based on an Anglo-American set of values. Indices defined from a Nordic perspective would be somewhat different.
According to Rouvinen, the WEF and IMD indices differ in their weightings of statistical data and the objective perceptions of managers on the business environment of their country. “Finns seem to have answered truthfully but patriotically”, observes Rouvinen.
Rouvinen also points out that most of the respondents in the surveys are from large corporations, not small enterprises. The statistical data dates back a few years, and 1998 and 1999 were excellent years for the Finnish economy.
In the new Global Corruption Report of Transparency International, Finland scores 9.9 out of ten in the Corruption Perceptions Index. With this result, Finland is the least corrupt country in the world.
This study is geared more for international corporations than private individuals, and the results are based on the perceptions of employees of large international businesses.
Denmark and New Zealand placed second and third, Sweden sixth, and Norway tenth in the corruption ranking. The United States and Israel share 16th place with a score of 7.6.

Re: Standarti ????
Какво значи среден показател за една класация!? Това, че Канада е била преди на първо място си е било за минали години. Класацията сега показва, че или тя е изостанала, или другите държави са я изпреварили в показатели, от които зависи стандарта на живот!
