Muggle
The word Muggles has several different meanings
A Muggle is a term from the fictional Harry Potter series of books which refers to a human with no magical abilities who doesn't belong to a wizarding family. See Magic (Harry Potter) for more information.
The term has found its way into more common English usage by those in small specialized groups to refer to those outside the group. This sense comes from the fact that the magical people in the Harry Potter universe are far outnumbered by the muggles.
JK Rowling said she created the word "muggle" from "mug", an English term for someone who is easily fooled. She added the "-gle" to make it sound less demeaning.
julesrbf: Как измислихте думата „мъгъл”?
Дж. К. Роулинг: Търсех дума, която да изразява глупост и едновременно с това обич. Наум ми дойде „мъг” (англ. „mug” – балама, някой лековерен) и аз просто я посмекчих. Според мен думата „мъгъл” звучи доста мило и приятно. На онзи етап не знаех, че ще бъде използвана като жаргонен израз.
Etymology
In the modern sense, from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels
Noun
muggle (muggles)
1. (Muggle) Someone “without a drop of magical blood in them”, a non-magical human being (see usage note 1).

Usage notes
1. Muggle is capitalised in the Harry Potter books but spelled with a lower-case initial in the other senses.
2. In the sense of someone not belonging to a group, the term is used by groups such as pagans to refer to non-pagans and IT support professionals to refer to the computer-illiterate. Compare mundane, previously used by some of the same groups for the same purpose.
3. Some sources say that muggle in the sense of marijuana is obsolete, but see [1], which considers it still to be a “street term”.
