Again I'm writing about the MapCenter

service - hope, you like idea of this service.

This time I want to focus on one thing - at MapCenter a slightly different version of cgpsmapper is processing data - it is not the free version but one of the - so called - commercial ( even if I am not making bussines on that :) - but it's a different thing )

What does it mean?

Well - first of all - you can index your POI - the simplest thing you can do is to add following line to the [IMG ID] header :

POIINDEX=Y

Of course - you can prepare list of countries/regions/cities (format of data for that part is not easy - therefore soon I will change that to make it much more easy) and add such info to POIs

What might be interesting as well - you can make index of all streets within the map - it's as simply as adding yet one more line to the [IMG ID] header :

MG=Y

With that you'll be able to search for the street (with dummy house
number) or to search for the intersection.

Two things worth of remark - please use LEVEL0=24 for such cases - in other case - searching might not work correctly AND make sure that at every intersection all streers have nodes at crossing.

What else can be done?

If you are from Europe - you can create topo map - if you want to do so, you can download topo data from ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/
then - using globalmapper program http://www.globalmapper.com/ - you can convert topo data to the ESRI format (shapefiles)

And... yes - shapefiles are accepted by cgpsmapper - take a look into the good known test_map at MapCenter - there it is a topo map - I have included there the topo data from USGS (SHP files)
