The Dobermann Pinscher (History and Development of the Breed). By Philipp Gruenig (translated into English by Maximilian von Hoegen. Orange Judd Publishing Company Inc. Originally printed 1939. This is a great book for the dedicated pedigree researcher - giving all the Champions (except French) up to the date of printing. Out of print and difficult to get hold of these days. This is not a book you can sit down and read or you would miss most of the information - it has to be studied

The New Doberman Pinscher. By Joanna Walker and other noted authorities. Howel Book House Inc. ISBN 0-87605-111-5. originally printed 1979. Interesting book on all aspects of the Dobermann it discusses origins and history, has b/w pictures of various dogs and their parentage, Dobes in various countries.

The Complete Doberman Pinscher. Written by Noted Breed Authorities (including Milo G Denlinger, Gerda Umlauff, C.W. Sloan, John T. Brueggeman, Kenton E. Smith, Mrs Bob Adamson, Anne F Paramoure. Howell Book House Inc. Originally printed 1953. As the title suggests this covers all aspects of the Dobermann, history, breeding, showing, problems etc.

The Dobermann. By Andre Wilhelm. ISBN 0-7182-1254-1. Copyright Crepin-Leblond & Cie 1961. English translation copyright Kay & Ward Ltd 1980. I have not yet got round to reading this one in just "dipping in" it does not seem to have anything extra. (It is much thinner than the foregoing books)

In The Beginning ..... A History of The Dobermann. By J.M. v.d. Zwan. Printed by RACMO - Meppel. 1991.(reprinted and updated frequently) This book has pictures of many of the prepotent and Champion dogs and bitches from the beginning of our breed to almost the current time. All with pictured, parentage, year of birth and description of dog, awards etc. A few pages of pedigrees at the rear of the book. Again an excellent book for anyone researching pedigrees.

Dobermanns - An Owners Companion. By Mark Ladd. ISBN 1 -852230-140-8. Published by The Crowood Press. Originally printed 1989. An excellent book for the experienced breeder and novice alike (also contains a lot of information that is useful when taking the Animal Care College's courses as I found out too late- having finished them before I brought the book). It covers genetics, heriditary problems as well as the usual history etc of the breed. If you only get one Dobermann book this is the one I would recommend as it goes into the subjects covered more deeply than other books and covers many of the things you will need to know.

The World Of Doberman Pinschers. By Anna Katherine Nicholas. Published by TFH Publications. 1986. What can one say about this book - it is enormous- with hundreds if not thousands of black and white and colour photos. She has covered different kennels and their outstanding Dobes in America, Canada and many other countries. There are sections on grooming, getting a pup, showing, judging, obedience, etc.etc.

All About The Dobermann. By Jan Irvine. Published by Pelham Books Ltd in 1986. ISBN 0- 7207-1639-X. This is a good book for the novice about Dobermanns wishing to learn about the breed in general rather than individual dogs in particular.

Doberman Pinscher. By Kerry Donelly. Distributed by TFH publications. This is a basic book about Dobes, 64 pages, followed by 130 odd pages on general (not breed specific) information on dogs and what looks like a lot of advertising of various products.

Doberman Pinschers. (Posters book). Distributed by TFH Publications 1984. Another basic Dobermann book that does not go into great detail but okay for someone thinking about a dog.

The Dobermann. By Fred Curnow & Jean Faulks. Popular Dogs Publishing Co Ltd. ISBN 0-09- 164750-9. Originally published 1972 and frequently since then. A justifiably very popular Dobermann book by one of the first people to import Dobes into the UK (Fred Curnow - Tavey) and Jean Faulks who deals with the working side. Has all the UK Working and Confirmation title holders and their parents, breeders, owners dates of birth etc.

Dobermanns. By Angela Sayer & Edward Bunting. Hamlyn Dog Breed Handbooks. ISBN 0-600- 55593-3 First published in 1988. A basic Dobermann book covering breed standard, choosing and buying pups, etc.

A Dog Owner's Guide To The Dobermann. By Jimmy Richardson. Salamander Books Ltd. ISBN 0-86101-354-91989. First published 1989. A pocket sized book that goes into a lot of detail including such things such as how to clean your Dobe's teeth.

The Dobermann. Hillary Harmer. W & G Foyle Ltd. ISBN 0-7071-0490-4 First published in 1968 and frequently after that. The first full length book on Dobermanns to be printed in Britain. A large book's information in a small format. If you can get copies this is an exellent book to give to anyone buying a Dobermann puppy for the fist time.

Dobe Is A Four-Letter Word. By Alf Hogg . (Auto-Biography?) Valmara Press 1989. This was, I believe, a privately printed book (soft cover A4). It is a brilliant story of Alf's introduction to Dobes , his Triogen kennels and makes hilarious reading if you can get hold of a copy.

Dobermann Champions of the UK - The First Thirty-Five Years. & Dobermann Champions of the UK Volume II &Dobermann Champions of the UK III By Mark Ladd . Valmara Press 1985, 1990 & 2000. Same publisher and layout as above. The titles are self explanatory. They show all the UK Champions (with pedigrees & photographs). All the dogs imported into the UK and other useful information for pedigree researchers. .

Doberman Pinscher Champions 1952-1980 & 1981 - 1985 & 1986 - 1987 & 1988 - 1981 & 1982 - 2000 Publisher Camino E.E. & B Company. Five books of USA Champions the 1952-1980 edition currently only available as authorised photocopy but is due to be reprinted at sometime. A gold mine for researchers of American pedigrees with photographs on pages that look as if they have been lifted from the Doberman Quarterly! If you are interested in past American dogs - an excellent buy.

A Dobermannvilag Kepekben/The Dobermann World In Pictures. By Bakondi Czaba-Ferencs Csaba. Printed by JAVIPA Kft. 1994. This is a book both in Hungarian and English and such has a very wide variety of Dobes in it many of them not seen in any of the above books. Dogs from Hungary, UK, USA, Poland, Norway, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Australia & Canada. (apologies to any countries I have missed out).

The Doberman Owners' Medical Manual. By R M Brown DVM. ISBN 0-938681-00-1. 1986. An excellent book providing you are not hypocondriac on your dog's behalf - it is exactly what the title says it is.

Dobermanns Today. By Jimmy Richardson. Published by Ringpress Books Ltd. ISBN 1-86054- 050-3. An excellent all round Dobermann book covering History, acquiring and owning a Dobe, Obedience, Breed Standards and explanations, showing, working, colour, breeding, health and Dobes in the USA. Made even better by having a picture of one of my girls in it <bg>

The Dobermann - A Pictorial History. By J.M. v.d. Zwan. Printed by Reestmond-Druk-Meppel. Available direct from Mr v.d. Zwan. Hard Back. 1996. A pictorial history of Dobermanns from the beginning up to 1995 with all aspects of the dobe been shown. Some wonderful and unusual pictures and useful for anyone wanting to know the year of birth and parentage of a particular dog.

The Doberman Book. By Mario Migliorini. Pubilshed by Arco Publishing Ltd. Hard Back. 1985 ISBN 0-668-05430-1. Author has lived in UK and USA with Dobes and his book covers this, early years, care and training of them. Has a wonderful picture of Marienburg's Mary Hartman on the Front.

A Hundred Dobermann Bitches. By J.M. v.d. Zwan. Printed by RACMO-Meppel. Soft Back. (Critique contributed by Kelvin Burton)

Dobermann-plezier In Nederland. By J.M. v.d. Zwan. Printed by RACMO-Meppel. Soft Back. Written in Dutch, but still an excellent book with great pictures (b+w) (Critique contributed by Kelvin Burton)

Der Dobermann By Hans Wiblishauser, 1997, ISBN 3-8263-8460-1, published by Parey. 93 pages, deals with many aspects of the dobermann, not much on particular dogs or bloodlines, a very basic book. Written in German (Critique contributed by Martin Andersen, Denmark)

Das Grosse Dobermann Buch By Dr. Gerhard Schьler, 1997, ISBN 3-929545-68-3, published by Kynos Verlag 202 pages, deals with pretty much everything including bloodlines, description of important dogs, very comprehensive chapters on breeding, nutrition, health and history.
