Organic foods, the trend of the future
by Stephan Maurer
Independent Online
14 May 2005
On 14 May 2005 Independent Online reported: As consumers increasingly turn to health foods, trend researchers predict a boom in the organic food industry. Both US and European organic food manufacturers are hurriedly expanding their operations to meet the growing demand. Global Good News service views this news as a sign of rising positivity in the field of health, documenting the growth of life-supporting, evolutionary trends.
Writer Stephan Maurer reviewed the status of organic food consumption throughout Europe and the US. He noted that in the US one-third of the population belongs to a group that is referred to as 'Lohas', which stands for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability.
Maurer referred to German Federation of Organic Foods (BNN) manager Elke Roeder. She told him that she believed that the debate over genetically modified foods has sparked much of the interest in organic foods.
The spokesperson of an organic food chain, Basic AG, Sylvia Raabe, told Maurer that it would be presumptuous to claim that everybody can afford organic foods. Still, she noted, when traditional supermarkets offer an 'eco' label, it promotes a general awareness of organic products
