Arrivals Tax Formalities:
The Aqaba Special economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) has the Authority to issue visit visa to Aqaba.
Jordanian Visa fees are JD10 (approximately $15) for one time visits, and JD20 (approximately $30) for multiple visits.
Arrivals at Aqaba, either through the port, the airport or at the crossing from Israel or Saudi Arabia are granted a free visa to Jordan.
There is no obligation associated with this visa, provided that they leave the country within 1 month of arrival and that they do not need to 'renew' their visa. Their passports are not subject to any special checks when they leave the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ).
Visitors arriving to Aqaba at any entry point, are entitled to a free visa (i.e. arrival tax is exempt). However, they must report this to authorities and must register with the Visas and Residency Division - Investment Directorate at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority in Aqaba within 48 hours of their arrival in Jordan. Those failing to register are liable to payment of the visa when they leave the Kingdom.
Anybody arriving in Aqaba can, if they wish, ask for a normal visa instead of the free ASEZ visa. In this case, if they want to stay longer than 1 month they can register at their local police station. Those holding an ASEZ visa and wishing to stay longer than 1 month must extend it at the ASEZA office in Aqaba and not with their local police station as holders of a normal visa would do.
Departures Tax Formalities:
All non Jordanian visitors, without a specific exemption, must pay the departure tax (JD5, around $7) from any border other than Queen Alia International Airport the departure tax would be ( JD20 around $28), whether holding an ASEZ visa or not, and whenever leaving the country.
Other related information:
Travelers staying in less than 24 hours are considered to be "in transit" and are exempt from the tax, as are certain cruise ship passengers.
Visitors from ‘unrestricted' nationalities can apply through Jordan diplomatic missions, or upon arrival in at the port of entry.
Certain nationalities require an entry visa to be obtained prior to travel. Visitors are advised to consult the Jordanian embassies or consulates to see which nationalities are restricted.
* The above-mentioned regulations are subject to change without notice. Visitors are advised to consult the Jordanian diplomatic missions, as well as this website, for visa requirements and updated information.
