"The wartime Lend Lease Act designated Alaska as the exchange point between the U.S. and the Soviet Union from 1942 to 1945. Approximately 8,000 aircraft and countless tons of material and supply were ferried by the U.A. Army Air Corps 7th Ferry Group, from the Northwest staging route via Gore Hill at Great Falls Montana, across various bases in Canada, to Fairbanks, and on to Galena, Nome and the Russian warfront via Siberia."
"The Lend-Lease plaque faces Hanger No. 1, still in use today, in which many of the planes were housed and was "Placed in memory of American and Russian veterans who participated in the battle fore freedom." Funding was provided by Morrison Knudson Corporation.
Russian pilots and support personnel, numbering from 150 to 600, were segregated from US citizens and stayed in separate facilities on post."
