In February 1996 Rasmus signed a contract with Warner Music Finland, and in March they released their debut album Peep, which sold gold. In the same year the band performed in over a hundred gigs in Finland, Russia and Estonia.
Rasmus released its second album Playboys in 1997. It too, as it's predecessor, sold gold. In 1997 was also released the single 'Blue', which sold gold as well. (Okay, can you see a pattern emerging here?) This year Rasmus got the amazing chance to play for an audience of 40,000 people at Helsinki Olympic stadium, plus the tv-viewers at home. The same year Rasmus won the Finnish Grammy (Emma) for the best newcomer of the year.
In September 1998 the single Liquid was released. It went right away to the top of MTV Nordic's Top 40. Liquid was voted by both critics and fans the best music piece of the year. In November the third album HellOfATester was released. Once again the Rasmuses struck gold: both the new album and Liquid sold gold.
Around the year 1999 Rasmus had a small break and Janne left the band to pursue his own needs. He was replaced by Aki. Before joining Rasmus Aki was selling T-shirts at the bands gig places.
In April 2000 the band signed a contract with Playground Music Scandinavia and changed its name to The Rasmus. The new album Into was recorded in Sweden, and the lead single F-f-f-falling was released 2001 in Finland. The single rocketed immediately to the top of the selling charts, where it remained for three months and - surprise, surprise - became another gold-selling single for the guys. The album Into was released in Finland in March and already in May it reached gold. After that Into has also sold worth platinum and double platinum.
In 2001 could be said is when one of The Rasmus' biggest breakthroughs happened as F-f-f-falling turned out to be a raging success. That year the band got to tour the Scandinavian countries and Germany. In the summer they released in Scandinavia the single Chill. Into was released in Sweden and Denmark in August, and in Germany in September.
In 2002 they brought out the single Heartbreaker after which they took a break to prepare the newest album Dead Letters. Dead Letters finally came out this year's February. In January before that In the shadows was published. In the shadows is also heard in the Finnish movie Pahat Pojat - translated Bad Boys.
August 2003: Latest news of the band tells that In the shadows is topping the German single charts, and Dead Letters is holding the third place on the German selling charts
