Jackson sued by ex-aide

POP singer Michael Jackson’s lavish lifestyle has led to a plague of debt of more than Ј100 million, according to a former aide who is suing him for $12 million - about Ј7.6 million.

Jackson’s former business manager Myung Ho Lee has claimed that the star, who allegedly spent a loan worth Ј20 million in a single year, is a "financial time bomb waiting to explode."

The claim could cost the singer, who reportedly faces several lawsuits, some of his beloved assets. At the heart of the legal battle lies Jackson’s rights to 251 Beatles songs he bought in 1985. Worth an estimated Ј173 million, they are currently owned jointly by Jackson and Sony. Jackson is said to face losing his 50 per cent share as he cannot pay a Ј90 million loan he took out in the 1990s.

It is the latest in a string of controversies which have threatened to engulf the singer in the years following his fall from grace after a 1994 out-of-court settlement with a young boy who accused him of molestation.

Last month, Jackson was criticised for branding the Sony Music chairman Tommy Mottola "racist" and "devilish", following disastrous sales of his album Invincible, which took six years - and an estimated Ј20 million - to make.

According to Lee, Jackson’s financial problems - which he says stem from his lavish lifestyle - have been coming for some time. But the battle is unlikely to bankrupt the singer - who is estimated to be worth Ј510 million.

Once one of the music business’s hottest properties, Jackson’s star has been on the wane for almost a decade.

Many suggest that his plastic surgery, bizarre lifestyle and the estimated Ј13 million out-of-court settlement following the child molestation allegations have permanently alienated audiences.
