Spanish Civil Guard Busts Bulgarian-Romanian Money Trafficking Scam


A money trafficking scam, ran by Bulgarians and Romanians with EUR100 and 200 banknotes, forged in Bulgaria, was busted by the Spanish Civil Guard, AFP reports Friday.

The Civil Guard's operation, labeled Lamarina, started with the arrests of two Romanians in Valencia, as they attempted to transport EUR10,000 in fake banknotes out of the country. After that the police arrested 21 Bulgarians and captured a total of EUR27,550 in fake banknotes and other forged documents.

The arrested are charged with forgery of money, forgery of identity documents, illegal possession of arms, and being part of a criminal organization, a Civil Guard press release, quoted by AFP, says. The police operation took place simultaneously in the provinces of Alicante, Barcelona, Valencia, Badajos, and the Baleric Islands. /bnn/
