Bulgarian police celebrated its 125th anniversary on its professional holiday, November 8.
The solemn ceremony at Sofia's Monument of the Unknown Soldier marked the establishment of national police attended by President Georgi Parvanov, Interior Minister Georgi Petkanov, Chief Prosecutor Nikola Filchev, many politicians, diplomats and police officers.
"The results from our work are evident for Bulgarian society and we are aware that the trust of people is the supreme criteria for the success of our activities", Chief of Police General Major Iliya Iliev said on the occasion of the holiday.
Sofia's police was boosted with 43 brand new Mercedes vehicles. Later in the day Minister Petkanov awarded former police chiefs and officers with honorary medals.
