Software Developer Deems Technical Manual too Technical
Littleton, CO. The technical reference publishing industry was rocked today by an announcement by Testnix Inc.'s Senior VB Programmer, MCSE Mike Sperks. His statement revealed what many in the industry have long suspected: O'Reilly technical manuals are too technical.
"Yeah I picked up that Java in a Nutshell book a while back -- I couldn?t understand half of it." Sperks stated. "They get into all these details no one cares about, like bit shifting. Who would ever need to shift bits?! It's like they expect you to know how to program before you even pick up the book! What are they thinking?!"
Mr. Sperks continued ranting "And they have the names for everything wrong. They call subroutines methods, and modules packages. It's all just stupid!"
The comments were brought out when his office-mate, Sally Sanders asked fellow software developer and Lead Java Analyst Dan Billy what books he would recommend as a good Java reference.
Sperks blathered on: "Now take this book, Java Applets Explained that I got for $4.99 from a discount bin," he stated while grabbing it from his bookshelf, where it sat next to a worn copy of AOL for Dummies "it's got everything you need to know about Java programming."
Mike then quickly excused himself to get back to work, as his Win98 box had finally finished rebooting.
