Being a matter of topical interest, also the Issue of commercial dog trading was discussed in the meeting of the FCI General Committee held on June 4, 1996, in Vienna. The following final resolution was adopted:

The FCI General Committee demands from its member countries that their breeders be forbidden to sell dogs including puppies to traders or pet shops.

At the same time, the national associations of the FCI member countries are urgently requested to establish an efficient breeding control system and a system for identifying dogs.
