The words of Marian Torski, a Polish Jew, a former prisoner in the Lodz and Auschwitz ghetto.
′′ I would like to talk to you and you, to the generation of my daughter and grandchildren.
Austria's president said ′′ Auschwitz ist nicht von himmel gefallen ′′ - Auschwitz did not fall from the sky..
It may seem like a banal saying but it has a deep and very important message. Let's pass a moment in our thoughts and imagination for the beginning of the 30 s, to Berlin,
An address appeared on the benches ′′ Jews are not allowed to sit on these benches ". You can say: unpleasant, not fair, it's wrong, but in the end there are so many benches around. You can sit somewhere else, never mind.
In the swimming pool that was in the area, an address appeared ′′ Jews are not allowed in this swimming pool ". You can say, again: it's not pleasant, but in the end in Berlin there are so many places to swim, so many lakes, canals, so you can swim elsewhere ...
And then the address ′′ We sell bread and food to Jews only after 17:00 o'clock ". It's already disturbing, because at this hour there's a more reduced selection left, but in the end you can shop even after 17:00.
.. We start getting used to the idea, to the thought, that you can define someone, that you can make someone exception, that you can alienate to someone. And so slowly, gradually, from day to day, people start getting used to... She asked other people, she asked people who can be removed from society, she asked strangers, who spread bacteria and pandemics.
It's already terrible, it's already very dangerous. This is the beginning of what may happen next.
And then violence is taken, i.e. banning Jews from getting to work. Banning immigration. And soon they will be sent to the gitos.. From there most of them will be sent to Kolmhoff.. Where they will be murdered with gas emitted from trucks, and the others will be deported to Auschwitz, where they will be murdered in Cyclone B in modern gas cha
It happened; it means it can happen; it means it can happen anywhere and all around the world.
This is what I want to tell my daughter, my grandchildren and their age wherever they live: Poland, israel, America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe.. Don't be indifferent when you see that some minority is discriminated against.. Don't be indifferent when any authority violates Minority rights.. Don't be indifferent when some authority violates acceptable social agreements, that already exist. Be true to the 11th commandment: Don't be indifferent!
Because if you don't, you won't even notice when you or your offspring some Auschwitz will suddenly fall from the sky."
