5th Balkan Power Conference
5th Balkan Power Conference will be held between 14th and 16th September in Sofia, Bulgaria. Along with the traditional discussion on deregulation and liberalization of electricity market, a parallel international seminar with title “Building the Awareness of RES: Technologies and Regulation” will be organized. Deadline for paper submission for both events is 15.6.2004. Prior to the conference also a special pre-conference workshop will be organized regarding liberalization of the power supply industry.

Balkan Power Conference is again connecting academic, business and decision maker’s world together - this time in Sofia, Bulgaria with new themes in challenges.
Balkan Power Conference (BPC) started in 2001 with intention to launch open discussion on deregulation and liberalization of electricity market in Balkan area and abroad. Conferences are organized each time in different country, providing an excellent opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and get in touch with new information on electricity market and industry restructuring. Today BPC serves as meeting place for researchers, experts, business professionals and finance world from throughout the industry and across the region.

The BPC 2005 is co-organized by University of Ljubljana and Technical University of Sofia. During the Conference, an International Seminar on Renewable Energy Sources will be organized in parallel to the conference under auspices of EU, 6th Framework Program. The title of the Seminar is "Building the Awareness of RES: Technologies and Regulation" and will be devoted to contemporary renewable energy topics. VBPC-RES Project

The Virtual Balkan Power Center for Advance of Renewable Energy Sources in Western Balkans under the auspices of EU Framework Program 6 is a project with the main focus on Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the region of Western Balkans.

The Virtual Balkan Power Center for Advance of Renewable Energy Sources in the Western Balkans belongs to the EU Framework Program 6, where the research work is funded by European Commission, Directorate General on Research and Technology Development (DG RTD) and International Co-operation Activities (INCO).

Main focus of the project is Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the region of Western Balkans. Its great, but insufficiently exploited RES potential and efficient use of RES could significantly contribute to security of supply within the region and in the wider neighborhood. Special care is devoted to innovative and viable solutions for electricity supply of underdeveloped areas and areas isolated due to war damage.

The main objectives of the VBPC are: (i) transfer of know-how in RES technology and their implementation for isolated regions, (ii) to identify main economic and legislative factors influencing investment decisions in RES including barriers and local specifics, and to identify options to improve penetration of RES, and (iii) awareness building and education on modes, means and benefits of renewable energy sources.

The project aims to enhance the transfer of best technology and best practice in the field of stand-alone RES integration, gained in EU and AC countries. Through identification of the main economic and legislative factors that are influencing the investment decisions in RES including barriers and local specifics, the project will contribute solutions for efficient ways of harmonization of national policies with EU aquis communautaire. Among the results, recommendations for technical procedures for connection to grid and pre-standards for protection will be developed, as well as analysis of various operational, planning and control issues of stand alone systems in isolated regions. The project will help turning the tide and bring about a series of changes in research, industrial, regulatory and public arena.

BPC Student Contest 2005
Balkan Power Center is organizing a contest for students with background in power engineering. Deadline for paper submission is 1.7.2004

Balkan Power Center (BPC) is continuing its tradition organizing contests for power engineering students. Under the auspices of EU 6th Framework Program, BPC is devoting additional focus to Renewable Energy Sources (RES). RES as main alternative for fossil fuels is the theme that should be discussed not only among academics, politicians and businessmen but also among students and young people at the start of their career. “Renewable energy sources – the way to sustain environmentally friendly economic growth?” is the title for this year’s essay which is designed to motivate students to think about alternatives of sustainable development. Traditionally, the three best papers will be awarded special prizes and authors of ten best papers will be awarded free participation on BPC Summer School 2006.

This year’s conference is divided to three events. On the first day of the BPC 2005 a pre-conference workshop will be organized entitled “Liberalization of the Power Supply Industry – Regional Impact” , with main topic of impacts of liberalization of Power Supply Industry in the region. On the second day, the main BPC 2005 event will take place. Two panels focusing on regional electricity market and system aspects of electricity trading in the Balkan region will take place. For the last day we have prepared the International RES Seminar, a special event on Renewable Energy Sources, organized under the auspices of European Commission, 6th Framework Program. International RES seminar will also feature two panel sessions – “Technology Impact on Economics and Regulatory Framework” and “Regional Aspects and Potentials of RES in Bulgaria“.

At the end of the conference, the winner of the Balkan Power Student Contest will be announced.

Бихме желали да Ви поканим на едно от най-големите събития на Балканите в областта на енергетиката, което ще се състои между 14 и 16 септември в Хотел Принцес в София. Балканската конференция по Енергетика ще събере изследователи, академици, инвеститори и мениджъри в София, България.Конференция по Енергетика 2005 е пета по ред като от 2001 ние събираме индустриалната общност в енергетиката от Югоизточна Европа и отваряме свободни дискусии относно дерегулацията и либерализацията на енергоснабдяващия индустрилаен сектор. Наши съорганизатори са:Университетът в Любляна, Техническият Университет в София и софийският комитет на европейската асоциация на студентите по електроинженерство (EESTEC) София.

Конференцията тази година ще продължи три дни : В Сряда, първия ден от коференцията, две специални работни групи ще разгледат темите отнасящисе до: либерализация на енергоснабдяването в индустрията ( liberalization of the power supply industry ) и Регионални аспекти и възможности на Възобновяемите Енергийни Източници в България ( Regional aspects and potentials of renewable energy Sources in Bulgaria ) . Вторият ден от конференцията ще бъде посветен на Бъдещите предизвикателства за Енергетиката на Балканите ( Future challenges for Balkan Power Energy). Две панелни и три постерни сесии ще представят съвременните въпроси относно пазара на електричество. За последния ден сме приготвили Международен Семинар по Възобновяеми Енергийни Източници на тема: „Запознаване с ВЕИ : технологии и регулиране” ("Building the Awareness of RES: Technologies and Regulation”) под егидата на Европейската Комисия, отдел международно сътрудничество, шеста рамкова програма проект :VBPC-RES.
